opportunity, they just couldn't get that run. they were within two feet when adam jones hit the ball down the left-hand lane another two feet and there game was over with then. they battled the angels. the double play situation. they came up big in the 11th and the 12th and the 13th inning they blew them out at that point right there. it is devastating because so many guys, it looks like they had bad days. but there were a lot of good days out there for the orioles too. one night after the next they scored 16-6 in the first game. now they lose this game here 17-8. it is heartbreaking to watch all this kind. i know it is tough days for everybody. but they have to be just demoralized back in that locker look right now. >> of course the orioles were down 4-0 in this game. they tied it at 6. they tied at 8. nick markakis on a day that he is going to have a run and a walk over. the two run homer number 14 do right field to tie the game up at 6. >> nick markakis had another very good day again and he got the orioles back in track with that homerun right there his 14th of the year. the orioles battl

consistency from a number of players even though they only won 1-3 in detroit. adam jones, home runs acouple of rbi's against the tigerring and quality at-bats. brian roberts has hit in nine of the last 10 and a .326 batting average. for wigginton finally getting some playing time, he's 4-12 against the detroit tigers. he'll play here. izturis, outstanding defensive plays and at the plate he got his second home run of the season against the detroit tigers going 3-10. nick markakis, he has hit in eight of the last nine at a .394 clip. of course we go back to pitching and brian mat advertise who made his debut against the detroit tigers, a lot of promise with the family on hand to watch him pitch. some of the highlights from the road trip so far. >> and you can see there are a lot of parts in place now. they're going to have to continue to grow. all of those young players that are doing so well will grow. you have to complement them with couple of key pieces. i still think one thing on andy macphail's mind is a punch to be the lead dog with all of these young starting pitchers. >> we have a ne

. guys like adam jones are starting to figure it out. they're starting to get upset that the ball club is giving up too many games by stupid things like base running and cut-off men and doing things in the infield that cost them pitches on the mound, innings, and having to work overtime for the bullpen. those kind of things, little things here and there that if you just bring it to everybody's attention, maybe spring training next year everybody says how did we lose control of this season. little things before we cut this conversation off and go somewhere else is you have to learn things about addressing certain hitters in certain situations. one thing and i'm just making an example of this, a two- strike count on a hitter, and a man on third base, less than two outs, what pitch does he never look for, the breaking ball right at him. if it hits and breaks the outside corner, you are the strikeout. that will save you a lot of trouble during the course of the ballgame. they need to learn these things. >> the roster is a work in progress. if you look ahead to next year, third base and fir
